Ellie Jane Goulding was born in Hereford England on December 30 1986. Her mother Tracey Goulding Summers worked in an ice cream shop and the father Arthur Goulding was a member of an undertaker family. Goulding's older sister Isabel and her younger sister Jordan have siblings. Alex is her brother. Alex Goulding's older brother performs bass. Also, he is an Hereford musician. When she was young she was surrounded by her mom who inspired her to become a musician. She began to learn the clarinet at age nine. She began writing her own songs at the age of 14, but it wasn't until after she was in university that she began to seriously pursue the art of songwriting. Goulding became fascinated by electronic music as she was studying. She was introduced to Frankmusik an artist and record producer through MySpace. With his help she developed her own style of folktronica. Jamie Lillywhite noticed her and was her manager. Then, he took over the duties as A.&R during a talent show. Lillywhite was later introduced to Starsmith an artist producer who was instrumental in her November 15th, 2009 release of Under The Sheets. Starsmith later collaborated on Lights. Despite their release of Under the Sheets on the indie label Neon Gold Records she was already registered with Polydor Records.
